Petroleum Engineering : Petroleum Engineering has seen lot of positive developments in last 2-3 years in India. Oil and gas sector is one of the fastest growing sector worldwide & even Indian cos like RIL,ONGC has made robust global presence. Even in last 2-3 yrs we have seen the emergence of new Universities / Institutes exclusively to cater to the demands for trained personnel in Petroleum Engineering. The packages offered to the fresh fraduates are one of the best and could be in the range of 10-14 lakh at domestic level. Job opportunities are very good at both domestic & international level.

Indian school of Mines ( ISM) Dhanbad :
The department of Petroleum Engineering at Indian school of mines was established in the year 1957 to make its mark in Oil & Gas industries in the country. This department has produced more than 1200 undergraduate B.Tech students and about 275 postgraduate students including both M.Tech & Ph.D.
Many of them are at the Director, President & Vice-President level in reputed energy sector companies.
The organizations which come for recruitments are Reliance Industries Ltd, ONGC, Schlumberger, Shell, Cairn Energy, Essar oil, IOCL etc.
The admissions are made on the basis of JEE ranks.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology :
The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas , Govt of India set up The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology at Rai Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh in 2008. RGIPT has been accorded the eminence of
Being an “ Institute of National importance “ along the lines of IITs. The Institute is empowered to award degrees in its own right. RGIPT is co-promoted as an energy domain specific institute by six leading Oil Public Sector Units (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in association with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB). The Institute is associating with leading International Universities/Institutions specializing in the domain of Petroleum Technology.
The admissions are based on the basis of JEE rank but the candidates need to apply with the institute.The counseling and the admissions are made by the committee finalized by the institute.
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University Gandhinagar ,Gujarat:
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University has been promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) to create a world class University in energy education and research with special focus on the oil and gas sector.
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) has been established by GERMI as a Private University through the State Act enacted on 4th April, 2007.

The University has designed 3 weeks training programme in association with University of Houston, University of Tulsa and University of Oklahoma to provide exposure of state-of-art technology in the upstream sector, to encourage petroleum engineering graduates. This training helps the students to get acquainted faster with changing technology in the sector.The University has 70 full time faculty and 35 visiting and adjunct faculty. There are more than 1700 undergraduate students and 225 postgraduate students in the University.

Admissions are made on the basis of merit in AIEEE. Candidates need to apply directly with the university to register for counseling conducted by University.
University of Petroleum & Energy Studies – Dehradun:
UPES is  recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and is under Public- Private partnership.
UPES was established in 2003 and over the years has earned a good name among the aspirants to pursue programs in Petroleum Engineering.
Admissions are based on the basis of merit in UPES Aptitude Test ( 80% seats are filled under this process). The candidates need to apply with the University and the final admissions are made on the basis of counseling conducted  by University.
20% seats are filled on the basis of Board / AIEEE merit.
Students with 80% marks in 10th & 12 class and 80% aggregate in PCM in 12th class can apply directly under Board merit.
Likewise students with AIEEE rank under 1 lac with 60% marks in 10th & 12th and 60% marks in PCM in 12th class cam apply under AIEEE merit.
Maharashtra Institute of Technology,Pune
MIT Pune is one of better known engineering colleges in Maharashtra with a reasonable national reputation. MIT offers both BE & ME in Petroleum Engineering.
MIT was established in 1984 and is situated well in the centre of Pune City. The college attracts good talent pool of students among the MHCET rank holders.
Admissions are made on the basis of merit in MHCET. 20% seats are filled on the basis of AIEEE merit.
